Ryan Potter

Interim Director

Ryan serves on the campus ministry team and is committed to making the gospel of Jesus Christ known on the campus of Michigan State University. His favorite part about his role is that he gets to meet with students to study the Bible and see it transform their lives.

Ryan graduated from MSU in 2008 and spent the next year as a pastoral intern at URC before attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Before joining the campus staff he most recently served as a pastoral resident at College Church in Wheaton, IL. Ryan met his beautiful bride Sarah while in college and married shortly after graduation. They have three children William, Gwendolyn, and Calvin.

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. Philippians 3:7-8

Jess Schrock

Women's Ministry coordinator

Jess is the Campus Ministry Women’s Coordinator at University Reformed Church. She works with the Spartan Christian Fellowship team to minister to college women at Michigan State University.

Jess serves in three main ways: 1) as a point person between college women and URC members, 2) coordinating SCF’s women’s ministry in partnership with the staff team, 3) discipling and leading college women. It is a joy for her to get to share her life with young women, and in return see them share their own joys, hardships, struggles, and longings. Jess is constantly amazed by the redeeming work of God in the lives of college students and it is her prayer that they would not only thrive as believers in their college years, but in their 40’s, 50’s and 80’s.

Jess became a believer in college through a ministry called Campus Outreach which she later served on staff with for 3 years. Her heart for young women and love for the local church is what drew her to her role with SCF at URC. Although she is new to the role and East Lansing, she already feels at home and is enjoying seeing young women grow in their love of God and understanding of the Gospel.

Jess loves all things coffee, long chats with sweet friends, and being a part of an incredible church body.

Ben Preiser

Campus Staff

Ben Preiser came to Michigan State as a freshman in the fall of 2009. He got involved in Spartan Christian Fellowship as a student and grew in his understanding of the gospel and the Bible. He also began to realize that the new life of a Christian is meant to be spent in loving and blessing others by pointing them to Christ (2 Cor 5:17-20).

After graduating, Ben decided to join SCF staff as an intern to continue his ministry with internationals. He was also assigned to work in the East neighborhood of MSU’s campus, leading a discipleship group and bible study in that area.

Ben interned for two years with SCF, after which he decided with his new wife Alyssa (married in summer 2015) to transition to working as a full campus staff member. He joined the staff team in December 2016 and plans to stay at least through the 2019-20 school year.

Ben’s aforementioned, beautiful, smart, and wonderful wife Alyssa is currently studying for a doctorate in Biochemistry through Michigan State. She also meets with students from MSU for discipleship, and lends her talents to SCF graphic design. Ben and Alyssa have a deep desire for the riches of God’s grace to be proclaimed at MSU and for the glories of Christ to be treasured in the hearts of the students there.
